This is the first part of my new series, Fashion God’s Way!
I am so excited to see how God works through this series. Before I begin, I would like to mention two important things.
1. You may not agree with everything I post and that’s okay. Many people have different thoughts on modesty and what is appropriate to wear. Also you may have different standards in your home. Whatever the case, if you have a disagreement and/or comment that you would like to be private, feel free to shoot me an email at… Godwardblog@gmail.com.
2. Comment! I want to hear feedback and comments! Share questions, thoughts, and what you like to wear!
This first part is all about skirts and dresses! When I was little, my mom dressed me in a lot of skirts and dresses. As I grew up, I started to ditch the dresses and skirts and started to wear more jeans and sweatpants. About a year or two ago, I read about something called, Week In Feminine Dress. Its a week solely devoted to wearing skirts and/or dresses. I thought that was cool, but I didn’t feel the urge to do it. But as I thought about more and more, I started wanting to wear more skirts and dresses. And then as I got into my teens I started wearing dresses with leggings, which personally is probably my favorite way of wearing dresses. Now, I really enjoy dressing up and wearing more feminine things. Now, I am not saying that women shouldn’t wear jeans and sweatpants, if I was that would be very sad. I love sweatpants. I am merely trying to point out that when women wear skirts or dresses, its really nice. You don’t have to wear them every day but every once in a while is always nice.
As you shop for skirts or dresses, there is always that one question, “What is the right length?”.
And there are others too. Such as, “how short is too short?” or “Does my skirt/dress ride up too much when I sit down?”. And two other key questions that don’t really go along with my topic are, “Does my dress or skirt show too much of my chest either standing up or leaning over?” or “Is my dress see-through?”. Now I am sure that you have heard of these questions. Probably have had to wrestle over the answers in a fitting room too! Well, join the club. These are just some of the questions that I have to ask myself when I try on a great dress or skirt. It is hard to find a good-looking AND modest skirt. My rule of thumb is if the skirt/dress is above my knee standing and sitting, it is not for me. Some skirts/dresses are misleading in that they look shorter when standing, but when you sit down they are actually longer. In the end, no matter how cute the skirt is, modesty must come first. Just think, whenever you or I are dressed immodestly, it could cause a fellow brother to stumble. That is a weighty thing to think about.
Now, I would like to show you some examples of my favorite types of skirts and dresses.
1. The Calf Length Skirt – Modest as well as cute!

2. The Just Below the Knee Skirt – These skirts are best for spring and summer!

3. The Floor Length Skirt – You can never go wrong with a floorlength skirt!

4. Dress with Leggings – This is my favorite way of wearing dresses. Works for all seasons too.
I couldn’t find the right length dress with leggings but this is really close. And its not the style I would wear or the shoes but you get the idea. You can wear flats, heels, and boots with this kind of outfit so that makes it nice.

Okay, a couple of questions.
1. What are your favorite ways to wear dresses and/or skirts?
2. What are your favorite styles?
3. What are your favorite places to shop for dresses and/or skirts?
4. What are some helpful rules of thumb that you remember when shopping?
Thanks for reading!

Hi Talitha,
I enjoyed reading your thoughts and ideas. I am very much like you in that when I was younger I also wore a lot of dresses, but then as I got older I didn’t like to as much, but I have recently started enjoying wearing dresses and skirts more.
Jean skirts are one of my favorites. My favorite places to shop are bargain shops and thrift stores. I love to be able to find a good bargain for a pretty thing. One thing I check when buying dresses/skirts is how tight is it? I don’t want to buy something that would be to tight.
Thanks for doing this series and I look forward to reading more.
God bless!

Hello!
I also am so encouraged to see your post! I had a similar history to yours, in that my sister and I were often dressed in very long skirts and dresses for most of our childhood. I love dressing feminine–it’s how God made us! It’s so wonderful that we can show our femininity for His glory! And I agree with you that skirts and dresses aren’t the only way to be feminine. I love finding ways to make even jeans look pretty! I love long skirts and knee-length skirts, and I was totally with you when you talked about struggling in the fitting room. It can be difficult finding modest clothing! Let us encourage one another to keep up the good fight for His honor. I love to shop at thrift stores. We grew up going there for our clothing needs, and now I have the tendency to get scandalized when I see what “normal” stores charge.
I’m very excited to see how you continue with your blog; it looks very good. As a side note, men are not turned off by or do not want to be around women who dress femininely–my husband tells me that it is one of the things he was most attracted to in me when we first started dating. He says (along with many other men) that a woman who isn’t ashamed of her femininity is a beautiful sight to behold–so long as she is not using her woman-ness in such a way that is immodest.
I look forward to reading more!

This is such a great idea for a blog series! I appreciate your interest in it. So many of us girls have had a struggle trying to find modesty in our clothing. What I didn’t realize until after marriage was that not only are well covering tops and skirts important, but possibly more important is the way a girl carries herself(walking, sitting, standing, leaning). You seem to be a good leader. Keep it up!

Talitha,
I loved the post and am lokking forward to the series.
I have been praying for ways to address modesty to my
younger sisters who are now growing up (11) (10).
I think your input will really effect them as they are really
big fans.(: Always in my prayers…Glory B
